If your gums in your mouth on the bottom are extremely sensitive, we can add a Permanent Soft Liner to your New Lower Denture—whether a Full (complete) Denture or a Partial Denture—that provides a more comfortable feel. This option is also available for your Existing Lower Denture during a Reline or Rebase of your denture. Permanent Soft Liners are almost exclusively only available for Lower Dentures, as they defeat the science of using suction to adhere an Upper Denture to the roof of your mouth (your upper palate). Upper dentures require rigid stability in order to maintain suction. With a soft liner it decreases the stability and causes the denture to move and the suction to break, thus causing the denture to drop. Though it is not common for people to get a Permanent Soft Liner, you will be able to discuss with your denturist your possible need for one, and the advantages & disadvantages of it.

Adding a Permanent Soft Liner to a New or Existing Lower Denture does not require any extra procedures with you in person. All the extra procedures are done by your denturist in the on-site laboratory. However, you will be able to discuss with your denturist at your Free Consultation appointment for either a New Denture or a Reline or Rebase of your Existing Denture your issues with extreme gum tissue sensitivity, if you have any, and the pros and cons of getting a Permanent Soft Liner on your Lower Denture.
Soft Liner
(no extra appointments are needed)
New Denture (no extra appointments or time to finish the denture are needed beyond what’s required to make a New Full Denture or a New Partial Denture)
Reline Denture (no extra appointments are needed beyond what’s required to do a Reline of your denture, but an extra day in the on-site lab is required to add the Permanent Soft Liner as discussed in the Appointments section on the Reline page: we need to keep the denture overnight so that the soft liner has time to cure)
Rebase Denture (no extra appointments or time to finish the denture are needed beyond what’s required to do a Rebase of your denture)
