After your initial phone call to book your appointment for your first visit to the Grantham Denture Clinic (more details below on Calling the Denture Clinic), you can use the directions provided to you on the phone call and the information below, as well as our Online Map & Directions if you need it, to determine exactly where we are located. Appointments are necessary for any type of major denture work, consultations (free) or adjustments (adjustments are for when your denture is causing you some discomfort). However, minor repairs do not require appointments. If you are not sure, just give us a call. If it is your first visit, then it is best to plan to arrive a few minutes before your appointment time to get a little familiar and provide some minimal information as outlined below. This page also gives you an idea of what happens on different types of appointments, including your Free Consultation appointment.
Calling the Denture Clinic
Even before your First Visit, you will have the opportunity to interact with either your Denturist or the clinic Assistant / Receptionist on the phone on your first call (905-934-5510). We will answer your questions, listen to what you are looking for and any issues and concerns you may have, and basically have a conversion with you so that we understand your needs and you understand how we can help you fulfill those needs. The conversation can be as short or long as you wish, though if it is with your denturist then it’s time permitting.
Visiting the Denture Clinic
If you have never visited our clinic before, we can give you directions on the phone. It generally is quite easy to find us in the Grantham Shopping Plaza (at Niagara St. & Scott St. in St. Catharines), as we have quite a unique location—in a beautiful, grassy alleyway with sidewalk between Wimpy’s Diner and The Wine Shop (on the Sobey’s Supermarket side of the plaza). The wide alleyway is filled with all sorts of pretty bushes. Our patients, along with us, love how so many small birds sing away all winter long (and all the other seasons!) while taking refuge in the evergreen bushes.
On your First Visit to our clinic, you will be greeted by our friendly Receptionist (unless they are busy helping your denturist in the on-site lab).
Once inside our waiting room, if the information was not collected on the phone, you can provide your full name, address, phone number(s), and date of birth at that time for our records. If you are only dropping off a denture for Repair, then your denturist can take a look at it and give you a time to come back to pick it up, usually later that same day (repairs usually take 2-3 hours)—or you are free to wait in our waiting room until that time. If you are not just dropping off a Repair, then you can have a seat to wait for your denturist to call you in to have a seat in the dental chair—whether you are there for just an Adjustment of your existing denture, a Free Consultation appointment, or to have impressions taken for a New Denture, or a Reline, Rebase or Add-On to an existing denture. No matter what, we aim to make you comfortable throughout your First Visit (and all subsequent visits) with friendly conversation, good listening practices, a need to understand your concerns and wishes, and every effort to help you understand all aspects of our procedures.
If this First Visit is a Free Consultation appointment, then your denturist will ask you questions and assess any existing denture(s) you may have, discuss with you your options, explain what’s involved in the work, including your part in it, and give you printed estimates of the work and prices. A relative or friend that accompanied you is free to come into the operatory room with you if that is your wish—in any and all appointments. You are welcome to take home the printed estimates to think about and discuss with loved ones, with no obligation on your part to come back or do any of that work. If you needed to think about it and give us a call at a later time to book an appointment for the procedure, or the start of multiple procedures if it’s a New Denture, then you can do so. But if you have made your decision and would like to proceed, often your denturist can do so immediately in that same consultation appointment.
If you have Dental Insurance, we can also send away a Predetermination (Estimate) to your insurance company (usually electronically) to see what their coverage is for the procedure in question. Sometimes we get an answer back immediately, though usually it takes 1-6 weeks, depending on how busy your insurance company is. As soon as we hear back from them, we can let you know what your portion would be for the procedure, after what your insurance covers. You can then use this information as part of your decision-making process if you so wish.
If it’s an Adjustment to your existing denture that you are needing, then your denturist will listen to you for where it hurts or bothers you in some way, and then take the denture around the corner into the next room, the on-site lab, to make the adjustment to the denture. After the denture has been adjusted, sometimes you may need that adjustment to settle over a couple of days at home to determine if the discomfort is gone: if it isn’t, you just need to call us back for another Adjustment appointment.
If it’s a replacement of worn out Nylons, or plastic inserts, or O-Rings for your Implant Retained Denture, then your denturist will do that in this First Visit appointment, as long as we have the proper ones in stock.
If it’s a New Denture we are making for you, a Reline or Rebase if your existing denture is loose, or Adding-On one or more teeth to your existing Partial Denture if you’ve lost some of your own natural teeth, then your First Visit may be for your denturist to take Impressions of your mouth on the top and bottom that are used to get an accurate mold of your tissues and any existing natural teeth—all to help your denturist do the service you are receiving.
