Dentures are usually removable structures that are used to replace missing teeth. While they may take getting used to and may never feel exactly like your natural teeth, with advancements in denture technology and procedures, dentures have become more natural and comfortable than ever. Grantham Denture Clinic provides two types of dentures, both removable: full and partial.
At Your Appointment (consultations are free of charge), your denturist will make an assessment on whether you even need new dentures (perhaps your existing dentures are still in good shape and all you need is an adjustment, reline or repair), and if the recommendation is new dentures, help you choose the type of denture that fits you best based on how many teeth are going to be replaced and other considerations.

Main Denture Choices
Full Dentures
When you’re missing all your natural teeth, we can make Full (complete) Dentures for you, either top (maxillary) or bottom (mandibular), or both.
Partial Dentures
When you still have some of your own natural teeth we can make Partial Dentures for you, for either top or bottom, or both (most partial dentures have clasps that hook onto your natural teeth). There are different types of Partial Dentures, including ones with a Metal Cast Framework (like the bottom one in this picture), Acrylic Partials (like the top one in this picture) and “Flippers” (if you’re only missing 1-2 teeth). We can even mix it with one Full Denture and one Partial Denture, all depending on what natural teeth you have left in your mouth.
Your Options
Options for New Dentures
Immediate Dentures
If your natural teeth still need extraction by your dentist or oral surgeon, especially if it’s a large number of teeth, then you have the option for us to make you what’s called an Immediate Denture, that can be placed into your mouth immediately after the extractions of your teeth, or you can wait for your gums to heal for us to make you a regular Full or Partial Denture.
Implant Retained Dentures
If you choose the often superior method of getting your oral surgeon to place permanent implants in your upper and/or lower ridges (bone), we can make you an Implant Retained Denture that you snap in and out of your mouth to achieve the best denture fit, comfort, stability, hygiene, and functionality.
Soft Liners
If your gums are more sensitive on the bottom, we can add a Permanent Soft Liner to your New or Existing Lower Denture that provides a more comfortable feel. This option is also available for your existing Lower Denture during a Reline or Rebase of it. There are advantages & disadvantages that you can discuss with your denturist.
Options for Your Existing Dentures
Relines & Rebases
If your existing denture is merely loose due to gum shrinkage and bone resorption over time, and your denture is still in good shape, you may not need a new denture at all: we can do what’s called a Reline, where we add a liner (a regular, Hard one or a Soft one) into your existing denture so it fits well again. In some cases a Reline is insufficient, in which case we can do a Rebase by replacing the entire pink acrylic base of your denture with brand new acrylic, making your denture almost like brand new.
Additions to Your Partial
If you’ve only lost one or more natural teeth or had them extracted, and your existing partial denture is still in good shape, you may not need a new denture at all: we can do an Add-On by adding teeth onto your existing Partial Denture, matching the shade (colour) of the rest of the teeth in your denture, and replacing clasps if necessary.
Repairs
If you have merely broken your existing denture in some way, even broken some teeth, and your denture is still in good shape, you may not need a new denture at all: we can Repair your denture, including replacing broken or lost teeth or clasps on it, usually on the same day—assuming we have your teeth in stock if it needs replacing (even if we need to order the teeth, they usually come within a day or two).
